End of November 2012, Dr. Jacob
Hofdijk, Vice-president of the European Federation for Medical
Informatics (EFMI), as well as Prof. Anne Moen from University
of Oslo, participated in a two-day workshop at IIG. During this
workshop, we discussed cooperation opportunities and finalized
a review paper on eHealth activities in Europe. |

After the success of the last year class, we are again organizing
a Certificate Programme in Nursing Informatis and eHealth
(in German: Zertifikatslehrgang Angewandte Pflegeinformatik

Elske Ammenwerth has been elected
to membership in the American
College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). The American
College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) is a college of elected
Fellows from the U.S. and abroad who have made significant and
sustained contributions to the field of medical informatics.
|
|
|
The institue was very present at MIE2011 in Oslo, with three
presentations and two poster to MIE.
The poster of Romaric Marcilly from Lille and Werner Hackl
from UMIT on "Humand-Centred Design of a Scorecard tool
for Adverse Drug Events" got the Poster Prize of MIE2011

Four students and two faculty members from the Institute
of Health Information Systems participated in the IPHIE
MasterClass 2011, that took place from July 6th - July
10th in Bad Wimpfen, Germany.
The IPHIE MasterClass ist organized annually by the IPHIE
partners: University of Amsterdam, University of Heidelberg/Heilbronn,
University of Minneapolis, University of Seattle, University
of UTAH, and UMIT.

Fourteen biomedeical informatics students of the Master programme
participated in the Frank-van Swieten-Lecture on Health
Informatin Systems that took place from June 29th - July
1st at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.
In the annual FvS-Lectures, students from five European medical
informatics programms (Amsterdam, Braunschweig, Heidelberg/Heilbronn,
Leipzig, UMIT) meet to work on selected topics of health information
systems.
The trip was organized by Prof. Elske Ammenwerth and sponsored
by the Institute for Health Information Systems, by Cerner
and by the Federal State Hospital of Hall (LKH Hall/TILAK).

Together with AIT - Austrian Institute of Technology, the
Institute for Health Informatics of UMIT was co-organizer
of the annual conferene eHealth2011
- Continuity of Care, that took place on May 26th-27th
in Schloss Schönbrunn, Vienna.
More than 270 participants discussed recent eHealth research
and applications in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. As invited
speaker, we welcomed Prof. Antoine Geissbühler from Geneva,
President of IMIA, the International Medical Informatics Association,
as well as Reiner Wichert from Fraunhofer AAL Alliance.

presented at the eHealth2011 conferences, received the Student
Award of eHealth2011. The paper presents results from the
joint project EHR
Arche between the Medical University Vienna and the Institute
for Health Informatics at UMIT. |

The presentation "Scorecards:
A new method to prevent adverse drug events", jointly
presented by Romaric Marcilly (University of Lille 2) and Werner
Hackl (Institute for Health Informatics, UMIT) at the 2nd
PSIP workshop on May 16-17, 2011 in Paris, received the
Young Researchers Award. Congratulations! |

On April 11th, 2011, the ÖÄR
(Österreichischer Akkreditierungsrat - Austrian Accreditation
Agency) has approved the application of UMIT to start a doctoral
programme "Dr. phil. in Health Information Systems".
This doctoral programme is lead by our the Institute of Health
Information Systems. |

On May 20th-21st, we organized the workshop on "Drug
Safety and Health Informatics" (Frühlings-Workshop
AMTS: Arzneimittelsicherheit und Medizinische Informatik).
Invited expert from Austria, Germany and Switzerland discussed
about possibilities to increase medication safety by information
technology.The participation was by invitation only.
The group will meet again at the GMDS 2011 Annual Conference
in Mainz.

Vom 24. - 26. Februar 2011 fand der
erste Teil des Zertifikatslehrgangs
"Angewandte Pflegeinformatik und eHealth" statt,
welcher vom IIG organisiert wird. Die Teilnehmer kamen aus ganz
Österreich und haben sich in den 3 Tagen unter anderem
mit IT-Projektmanagement, pflegerische Ordnungssystemen sowie
Datenschutz und Datensicherheit beschäftigt. |

Between Sept. 30th and Oct. 1st, 2010, our Institute organized
an ITIL-V3 certification training. Around 20 students
and professionals participated. The lecture was given bei
Thomas Schürmann from the Human
Matters Unternehmensberatung AG. At the end, all participants
successfully completed the international ITIL V3 exam.

Daniel Riedman received the GMDS
Student Award at the 55th Annual Conference of the GMDS
(Sept. 2010 in Mannheim) for his presentation entitled "Prioritization
of alerts in CPOE systems using the clinical context - A mixed
method study". Congratulations! |

Our Institute was quite successfull in contributing to Medinfo2010
in Cap Town. We presented two papers and three posters and
contributed to two workshops.
In addition, at the 55th Annual GMDS conference in
Mannheim, members of the Institute had six full presentations.

From June 27th - July 2nd, and initiated
and partly funded by our institute, four UMIT students were
enabled to participate in the IPHIE
MasterClass on Medical Informatics at the University
of Wahsington in Seattle. On this MasterClass, 24 students from
6 universities from 4 countries participated. |
|

From June 23th - 25th, 6 UMIT students
participated in the international Frank-van Swieten-Lecture
at the Technical University of Braunschweig. On this lecture
and group work on Hospital Information Systems, students from
five universities from three countries participated. The participation
in this lecture was organized by our institute. |
|

Cornelia Schneider won the third
price at the eHealth2010 Student Competition for her master
thesis "Nutzenpotentiale von Echtzeitlokalisierungssystemen
im klinischen Bereich". The price was awarded by the Berufsverband
Medizinischer Informatiker e.V. (BVMI). |
|
|
Our Institute hosted the 5.
femIT meeting on January 14th, 2010. The Austrian
femIT network consists of female professors from computer
science and related fields. Among others, we used this meeting
to discuss changes in the Austrian university laws as well as
marketing of research results. |

FWF project funded: The Institute
got funding for the project "EHR-Arche:
Archtetypes-based Electronic Health Record". Together
with the team of Georg Duftschmidt from Vienna we will develop
and evaluate context-based information retrieval from electronic
health records (EHRs). The project will start in January 2010
and last two years. |

Our Institute received the DAVID-SACKETT
Award 2009 of the German Network "Evidence-based Medicine"
for the work "The Effect of Electronic Prescribing on Medication
Errors and Adverse Drug Events: A Systematic Review" that was
published by Elske Ammenwerth together with Uwe Siebert and
Petra Schnell-Inderst. The award was presented on March 6th
2009 in Berlin. Press

meeting "PSIP
- Patient Safety through intelligent procedures in Medication"
in January 2009. Around 40 experts discussed about patient
safety and medication ordering. |
